Jose Rizal is a symbol of the Philippines since he symbolizes its love for freedom, knowledge, and justice. Rizal employed his intellect and his powers of writing to portray how the Filipino people were suffering in the hands of the Spanish colonizers of their country at that time. Jose Rizal inspired many people through his books *Noli Me Tangere* and *El Fili* *Busterismo* when he opened their minds to change through non-violent actions.


Rizal believed that progress and freedom can only come to humanity through education. Rizal has shown that fighting for his country does not necessarily mean fighting with arms, but fighting with wisdom and strong ideals. Rizal has shown his Filipinos that he is brave enough to stand for his ideals.


Rizal’s sacrifice made him the real icon of the Philippines. His death made the Filipinos’ belief in the importance of national sovereignty stronger, and it made many heroes after them continue the fight for independence. It is due to Rizal’s ideas and actions that Jose Rizal is the icon of the Philippines and the embodiment of patriotism.
